When did the multicore OCaml project actually start? it would be nice to get some inside into the beginning of the project for us newbs.

March 2014. The earliest commit history is here: Commits · ocaml/ocaml · GitHub. It was mainly Stephen Dolan hacking on Multicore OCaml during his PhD (while not working on his PhD topic). The earliest public mention of Multicore OCaml is in the OCaml 2014 workshop: OCaml 2014: Multicore OCaml, Stephen Dolan - YouTube.

Didn’t it hit a standstill between then and now? I remember reading that the work on this was basically restarted at some point.
